Loading And Unloading Services

Loading and Unloading Services

Loading a moving truck looks simple until you’re actually doing it. Furniture needs to be positioned correctly so it doesn’t shift. Boxes have to be stacked with heavier items on the bottom. Fragile pieces need to be placed where they won’t be crushed. And if you’re loading a container or rental truck yourself, one wrong placement can mean damage hours down the road.

Utah’s Premier Moving Company provides professional loading and unloading services across the Wasatch Front. We’re based in Utah County, and our crews are background-checked. As a result, whether you need help loading, unloading, or both, the physical work gets handled by trained movers.

What Loading and Unloading Services Include

Loading and unloading services are straightforward: you provide the transportation — a rental truck, portable container, or storage unit — and we provide the trained crew to load and unload it.

Specifically, our service covers:

  • Loading — carrying items from your home to the truck or container

  • Unloading — carrying items from the truck or container to your new home

  • Furniture wrapping — padding and protecting pieces before they’re loaded

  • Furniture disassembly and reassembly — for beds, tables, and some shelving units

  • Strategic placement — organizing items in the truck or container to prevent shifting during transit

In other words, we handle the muscle and the technique. You handle the transportation itself.

Who Should Hire Loading and Unloading Help

Not every move needs full-service movers. However, many moves benefit from professional loading and unloading. Because of that, this service is often the right fit for the following situations.

DIY Movers with Rental Trucks

If you’re renting a U-Haul, Budget, or Penske truck and driving it yourself, we can load it at your origin and unload it at your destination. As a result, you skip the back-breaking part without paying for a full-service move.

Portable Container Movers

If you’re using PODS, U-Pack, or a similar portable container service, our crews can load the container at your home and unload it at the other end. In addition, we follow the container provider’s weight and stacking guidelines.

Storage Unit Loading and Unloading

If you’re moving items into or out of a storage unit, we can load and stack the unit efficiently. That way, you get the most usable space out of it.

Long-Distance DIY Movers

If you’re moving across the country with a rental truck but don’t want to load or unload it yourself, we handle both ends. As a result, your belongings get professional handling without the full-service price tag.

Local Movers with Their Own Transportation

Some homeowners own a trailer or box truck and use it for their own moves. We can load and unload it the same way we would a rental truck.

Seniors and Downsizing Households

Loading and unloading is physically demanding. Therefore, homeowners who are downsizing, aging, or managing health limitations often prefer to have professionals handle the physical work.

What’s Included

  • Loading items from your home into the truck or container

  • Unloading items at the destination

  • Wrapping furniture with moving blankets and stretch wrap

  • Disassembling and reassembling standard furniture

  • Strategic placement to prevent shifting during transit

  • Basic stacking to fit the load efficiently

What’s Not Included

  • The truck or container itself — you rent or book that separately

  • Driving — you (or a designated driver) handle the driving

  • Packing — packing is a separate service, covered by our packing and unpacking services

  • Specialty items — pianos, safes, and pool tables are handled through our furniture movers service

  • Supplies — moving blankets, straps, and packing materials are typically included, but confirm with us before the move

If you need help with any of those, we can often bundle them. Request a free estimate to discuss scope.

How the Loading and Unloading Process Works

The process is simple and follows a predictable flow. Below is what a typical job looks like.

Before the Crew Arrives

  • You confirm the truck, container, or storage unit is on-site or scheduled for delivery.

  • You confirm the number of crew members and the estimated hours.

  • You identify specialty items that need extra handling.

When the Crew Arrives

  • We do a walkthrough to confirm the scope and identify the route through the home.

  • Furniture is wrapped and prepared.

  • Loading begins. Items are placed strategically to prevent shifting.

  • We stack efficiently so the truck or container is well-utilized.

At the Destination (Unloading)

  • The crew unloads items into the new home.

  • Furniture is reassembled where applicable.

  • Boxes are placed in the rooms you specify.

  • Empty packing materials are removed if requested.

Which Trucks and Containers We Work With

We work with all standard residential moving containers. Below are the most common.

Rental Trucks

  • U-Haul trucks in various sizes

  • Budget trucks

  • Penske trucks

Portable Containers

  • PODS containers

  • U-Pack ReloCubes

  • 1-800-Pack-Rat containers

  • Other portable storage container brands

Storage Units

  • Climate-controlled units

  • Standard drive-up units

  • Multi-floor storage facilities

Loading vs. Unloading: What to Expect

Loading and unloading are different phases of the move. Because of that, they have different time expectations.

Loading Time

Loading typically takes longer than unloading. That’s because furniture needs to be wrapped, disassembled, and placed strategically. For a 2-bedroom home, loading usually takes 2-3 hours depending on access and volume.

Unloading Time

Unloading is faster because items are already wrapped and organized. However, reassembly adds some time back. For a 2-bedroom home, unloading typically takes 1-2 hours.

Both Loading and Unloading

If you book both, the same crew handles each end. In addition, you may see a small scheduling discount compared to booking separately.

What Affects the Cost of Loading and Unloading Services

We don’t publish flat rates because every job is different. However, here’s what drives the cost.

  • Number of items and total volume — more items mean more time.

  • Crew size — more movers means faster loading but a higher hourly rate.

  • Access — stairs, narrow doorways, and long carries add time.

  • Disassembly requirements — beds, tables, and shelving units add time.

  • Truck or container size — larger loads take more loading time.

  • Load only, unload only, or both — both ends together often costs less than two separate bookings.

  • Timing — weekends and end-of-month dates are the busiest and may affect availability.

The best way to get an accurate number is to request a free estimate. We’ll ask about your load and provide a clear estimate before you commit.

How to Prepare for Loading and Unloading

A little preparation goes a long way. Below is what we recommend.

Before Loading Day

  • Empty drawers and pack loose items into boxes or bags.

  • Disconnect appliances from water, gas, and power.

  • Reserve the truck or container in advance.

  • Confirm parking is available for the truck or container.

Before Unloading Day

  • Confirm the truck or container has arrived at the destination.

  • Clear pathways and doorways so items can be moved in without delay.

  • Have furniture placed in the room where it will live — that saves reassembly time.

On Both Days

  • Keep pets and small children away from the loading zone.

  • Have cold water available for the crew during hot months.

  • Stay available at the start and end of the job to confirm the scope.
